For this newsletter, I am constantly caught up in criticising the beauty industry—its relentless exploitation of our insecurities and the impossible standards it pushes—that I often forget to look for the good. And truthfully, it’s a huge mess, and that light can be difficult to find, especially when the world feels like it’s falling apart, and the beauty industry plays a significant role, in literal war. The situation in Gaza has weighed heavily on my heart; I can barely watch the videos online without feeling overwhelmed by helplessness. I can’t even begin to imagine what the people of Gaza are enduring in real life. Twelve months of escalating violence, and it’s only getting worse. It’s absolutely devastating.
In the midst of all this, organising a charity beauty sale, while a small effort, feels like an opportunity to do something positive. Over the last year, these sales have been a way to use what often feels like a toxic industry into a force for good. It’s a strange irony—using beauty products, which I’ve spent so much time critiquing, to raise money for those who need it most. But here we are again, turning lipsticks and face creams into support for women and children caught in conflict.
What I’m trying to say is—we’re back with our charity beauty sale this Sunday in Dalston. If you’re around, come grab a beauty bargain or just show up to support. That means just as much. And please, share far and wide; we need all the help we can get to make this a success. A huge thank you to the incredible beauty journalists, brands, and content creators who donated products—it’s been a challenge pulling it all together, but we’ve made it, and we’re ready.
Hopefully, we’ll see you on Sunday!
