The beauty world is back at it again and after Blueberry Milk nails, if you thought the ludicrous food-named beauty trends run would slow down, you were wrong my friend. Whether it’s a lack of individuality or just another trend the beauty industry is draining for everything it has, beauty trends named after your favourite snacks and beverages are here to stay, yikes.
I read this piece in Jessica Defino’s newsletter, which explored how the beauty industry co-opted milk as a beauty ingredient. It was incredibly insightful and it could very much be that all the food-related beauty trends are following a similar discourse. Beauty brands are very cleverly creating an association with food, in an attempt to make beauty more relatable, give the illusion of healthy, natural and even an essential item. It’s something, I’ve been thinking about quite a bit and while it’s cute and catchy, there is nothing appetising about the way the current beauty trend cycle is churning out trends (read more about that here).
Here is a list of all (well at least the ones I’ve stumbled across) food-named beauty trends, it looks a lot like a grocery list.
1. Glazed Donut (we can thank Hailey Bieber for this one, she said in an interview, her goal is to have skin so good, it resembles a glazed doughnut that you just want to bite into. I don’t know, if I’m into that, no skin biting here please)
2. Not to be confused with Glazed Donut Nails
3. Blueberry Milk Nails
4. Latte Makeup
5. Latte nails
6. Espresso Makeup
7. Strawberry Girl Makeup
8. Strawberry Nails
9. Tomato Makeup
10. Honey Lips
11. Cherry Lips
12. Cola Lips
13. Cinnamon Cookie Butter Hair (this is just ridiculous, cinnamon cookie butter hair, who started this?)
14. Syrup Nails
15. Juicy Curls (I’m as confused as you are)
16. Vanilla Girl Makeup
17. Dark Vanilla Makeup ( which is very different to your vanilla makeup of course)
18. Peppercorn Black is set to be huge this autumn for hair
19. Another hair colour trend, Golden Turmeric
20. Cinnamon Girl Makeup
We’re in deep and I can imagine this will be a running theme as we enter the cooler seasons, which lends itself to a whole host of food. I’m expecting pumpkin-spiced lips, sprout-girl makeup and maybe Christmas pudding nails? We’re definitely headed for a food coma.
